Why Volunteer |
It is simple: you are helping your neighbors, your community, and yourself. We are glad you are interested in volunteering. The success of Bay to Sound Neighbors depends on the diverse talents of a dedicated group of volunteers from our community who share their knowledge, time, and abilities to enable persons to “age in place” in their own homes and community for as long as possible. At the same time we are creating connections and friendships. And you are “paying it forward.” As an all-volunteer organization, we are committed to ensuring that the work we do is meaningful. Our volunteers make a difference in the lives of our members by providing help with Cape-wide transportation, home and garden tasks, friendly visits, and computers, tablets, and cell phones.. We have learned from other villages that members come from all walks of life and are very appreciative of the services they receive. Often strong bonds develop between members and volunteers. As a volunteer, you can set your own schedule as your time permits, and you can change the hours you volunteer if your schedule changes. |
Volunteer Roles |
It is up to you what role you would like to take in the organization. You can also help with administrative tasks. You can decide how many hours you want to donate as you go into the on-line system and select volunteer opportunities. |
Transportation | Not being able to drive is a limitation on a person’s well-being and engagement in the community. By offering rides, we are able to make a difference—rides to the doctor, to the hair salon, to the gym are examples. |
Home and Garden | Some tasks around home are difficult to do by oneself as one ages. Help with changing lightbulbs, installing a storm window or screen, or watering flowers when it is very dry are the kind of services that help. |
Technology Assistance | Older persons can find using computers and smart phones challenging, but a little help by answering questions can make such a difference. |
Friendly Calls or Visits | Staying in touch with others keeps our members involved in the community. |
Administrative Tasks | Our village also needs individuals who can perform administrative tasks either working on one of our support teams or in daily operations as a service coordinator. The Service Coordinator role requires access to a computer or tablet to log in to our website software. This role can be performed from your home. |
