Read on to learn more about some of our amazing Volunteers!

Jane Robinson

Jane joined Bay to Sound Neighbors when it was in its infancy and she worked on one of the original organizing committees. Today, Jane continues to volunteer on the membership team, meeting with people who express an interest in becoming members.

Prior to moving to the Cape in 2015, Jane spent 35 years teaching kindergarten in Western Massachusetts missing only one year when she taught in the United Kingdom as a Fulbright Scholar. During much of that time she and her family had a cottage in West Dennis. Inevitably, she and her husband moved to Dennis as full time residents.

After retiring from teaching, Jane found volunteerism a worthwhile activity that served a dual purpose. She believes volunteering replaces the identity and satisfaction that retirees derived from their former career plus it provides valuable impact to the local community. Jane also volunteers for Disaster Services of the Red Cross helping people affected by fire or natural disaster, deploying to locations such as Hurricanes Irma, Florence and Sandy as well as to assist residents affected by the tornados on Cape Cod a few years ago. Jane was also a past recipient of the Red Cross Hero Award for her work at the Red Cross. The Red Cross says that these awards shine light on selflessness of heart and heroism of character.

Maureen Boland

Maureen Boland has been volunteering with Bay to Sound Neighbors (B2SN) since the very first information meeting in 2017 when B2SN was just an idea.  Recognizing the value this great organization could bring to the community, she immediately joined the marketing and outreach organizing committee. Then, when B2SN began to operate, she served on the board of directors until September 2019.

Besides providing countless rides, what she remembers as being special are the friendly visits with members seeking some company and conversation.  Friendly visits for Maureen weren’t only to sit and chat.  She has been known to take the member to the beach, go for a walk, visit Packet Landing or the Bass River Park.  Sometimes her friendly visits involved gardening with a member.  She is dedicated to having a positive impact on our members’ day.

In addition to volunteering for B2SN, Maureen works with the Faith Family Kitchen serving meals to people in need. She has also worked with the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) working community road races, stuffing police cruisers with food, staffing the High School Shelter when needed, delivering and supplying products to congregate homes, and working on the Brown Bag program providing supplemental groceries through the Council on Aging.

Ellen and Bill Murdoch

Ellen and Bill Murdock lived in Littleton, Massachusetts before moving to West Yarmouth, an inherited fixer upper near Sea Gull Beach. Both the natural beauty and the variety of activities and friends led to their decision to become full time residents in 2009.

In 2013, they moved to their current home in South Yarmouth. Ellen became an RN and worked in pediatrics after training at Boston Children's Hospital. Bill received a master’s degree in counseling from Boston College and worked in children and family services including as an intake director. Later he worked in various nontechnical mid-management roles in the high-tech industry. They have two daughters; one is an Occupational Therapist living in North Attleborough and the other is a Physical Therapist living in Brewster. And four grandchildren help to keep Ellen and Bill busy.

As members of Dennis Yarmouth Newcomers, they were introduced to the concept that eventually became Bay to Sound Neighbors (B2SN). Ellen worked on the planning committee that produced the groundwork for the B2SN organization and that now provides many needed services to so many fun and interesting people. Ellen and Bill work as a team to provide intake services and home and garden services. They feel that it has been an honor to be part of an organization as it grows and adapts under amazing leadership
